Three steps. About 5 minutes.
Crashmates is the only roommate platform that verifies every account against the federal IPEDS database before letting them post or message. Here’s how the flow works.
What makes verification work.
Most roommate apps either don’t verify or only verify after you pay. Crashmates verifies at sign-up, for free, using two checks:
- Email control proof. You sign up with your .edu, we send a magic link, you click it. This proves you control that email address right now.
- IPEDS cross-check. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System is the US Department of Education’s official database of all accredited US colleges. We check that your .edu domain belongs to a real IPEDS-listed school before activating your account.
If your .edu domain matches an accredited school, your campus community activates immediately. If your school isn’t in IPEDS, you’re queued for manual review — about 1 in 50 schools.
What you can do on Crashmates.
- Find a roommate. Match with a verified student at your school and find a place together.
- Find a room. Browse open rooms in apartments and houses already rented by other students at your school.
- Post a sublease. Summer, semester, study-abroad — reach verified students at your school instantly.
- Hand off a lease. Transferring or graduating mid-cycle? Post a lease takeover to verified students who actually need it.
