What are subleases on Crashmates?
A sublease is when an existing tenant lets you live in their place for part of their lease term. Most common for summers when students go home, semesters when they study abroad, or internships in another city. The original tenant stays on the lease; you pay them. Crashmates makes sure both parties are verified .edu students.
Joining is free, posting is free, and matching is free. You only spend a credit to send the first message in a new conversation. After that, the entire conversation is free for both people.

Every student on Crashmates has a .edu email cross-checked against the federal IPEDS database before they can post or message. No bots, no fake brokers — just real students.
Is browsing subleases free?
Yes. Once you verify your .edu, browsing, filtering, and matching are free. You only spend a credit to send the first message in a new conversation — after that the whole conversation is free for both people.
How much does it cost to message a sublease poster?
One credit per first-message in a conversation. Credits are $1 each in the starter pack, $0.70 in bulk. After the first message, the whole conversation is free.
Can I post a sublease listing for free?
Yes. Posting is always free. We make money only when you message someone, and only the first message in a new conversation.
